On November 8, the International Symposium of Horticultural Plant Biology 2023 commenced at HZAU. It aimed to enhance global communication and exchange in horticulture, showcase the latest achievements and applied technologies of horticulture science, and promote the innovation and development of this discipline.

Themed “Frontiers in Horticultural Plant Biology”, this symposium invited scholars from various universities and research institutions at home and abroad. They shared their up-to-date research results and discussed the cutting-edge progress of horticultural plant biology research online and onsite.
Xia Song, deputy director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, noted that as one of the significant activities of the 1st Donghu Forum, this symposium offered us a crucial platform to disseminate knowledge related to horticulture, discuss its frontier progress, foster the spirit of innovation and contribute to high-quality development. He further emphasized that the Department would spare no effort to support the development of HZAU, Hubei Hongshan Laboratory and the National Key Laboratory for Germplasm Innovation & Utilization of Horticultural Corps, thus making greater contributions to the development of Hubei Province.
This two-day symposium covered such academic discussions as the quality formation and control of horticultural products, the interaction between horticultural plants and the environment, stress responses, the development and evolution of horticultural plants, and hormone signaling and epigenetics. In addition, a student forum was set up as well, where doctoral students, master students and undergraduates delivered their relevant reports in English.
This symposium was co-hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, Huazhong Agricultural University, the National Key Laboratory for Germplasm Innovation & Utilization of Horticultural Corps, Hubei Hongshan Laboratory and HZAU College of Horticulture and Forestry Science.
